Kundalini Awakening Gone Wrong: Surviving the Fire of Kundalini Syndrome and Psychosis.
The Kundalini fire burns bright and fierce for most of us. If you're like me, you might not have had a clue that a Kundalini awakening could have such intense effects on your life, mental well-being, and even bring on symptoms often referred to as Kundalini syndrome. But don’t worry—you’ve come to a place that will hopefully give you some answers to make this transition less harsh and scary.
In the beginning stages of my own Kundalini awakening, everything felt beautiful and blissful. I attended several awakening classes and retreats, and as the energy rose, it cleared away issues I was facing—negative emotional patterns and a whole host of heavy things. I felt empowered, elated, and deeply connected.
Then one day, everything changed.
At first, I didn’t realize it was part of the Kundalini process. I genuinely thought I was losing my mind—what some might call Kundalini psychosis. I couldn’t concentrate, my thoughts were scattered, and my energy felt chaotic. There was this awful buzzing feeling raging through my entire body, which eventually turned into what felt like a raging fire in my energy field. Some days, it brought me to my knees in tears, feeling like I was experiencing a breakdown. Eventually, I felt a burning sensation shoot up my spine. That’s when I realized—this is Kundalini syndrome. That knowledge helped me cope. Through research, which I’m about to share with you, I learned how to navigate this intense purification process, sometimes referred to as Kundalini sickness.
Kundalini awakening happens in stages and can affect every part of your life. If you're not prepared for it, it can take you by surprise, causing what many call Kundalini syndrome symptoms, which may include physical, emotional, and psychological distress. But it doesn’t have to be this way if you’re equipped with the right knowledge and tools to handle it.
The Awakening
In this stage, most people feel pressure and some challenges to work through, but also a lot of joy. You break through limiting beliefs and feel the power of this energy surging through you. It can be tough, but many can handle it. Even though there’s some clearing of trauma, this is also when your chakras are awakening and coming online. The spiritual high is intoxicating, and the positive shifts are amazing.
The Purification
This is the stage that often takes people by surprise because they think they’ve already done the work in the first stage. But no, my friend—it’s only just beginning. Now the Kundalini energy rises like a fire, raging through your system and burning away harmful habits, limiting beliefs, emotional patterns, false identities, and more. In this phase, it can feel like everything you knew is being taken away from you, leading to confusion and what some describe as Kundalini psychosis. Your mind may feel like it’s breaking, and your body may experience intense symptoms, often referred to as Kundalini sickness.
This stage of Kundalini syndrome can feel like your life is falling apart, but this fire is relentless because it’s burning away everything holding you back from your highest self. The more you resist, the more intense the fire becomes, making the experience even more hellish. This is where surrender is key—if you don’t surrender to the process and work with the fire to purify your being, you’ll remain in this stage until you do.
One of the hardest symptoms for me during this time was the energetic overload and mental confusion. My body buzzed constantly, like a weed high with a body buzz, which was distracting and uncomfortable. I couldn’t focus, and the buzzing scattered my thoughts, making them hard to grasp. I remember sitting on my porch, looking at the sky, thinking, I’m so tired. I’ve had enough. I need this to stop, or I’ll go crazy. These are classic Kundalini syndrome symptoms, and they can make you feel as though you're losing touch with reality.
The Illumination
This phase is about allowing the unfolding. Most of the burning and purification has already taken place, and now you’re simply allowing yourself to unfold as you discover new levels of awareness and consciousness. In this phase, you embody your connection to everything. It feels as though you can actually hear the universe listening to you, and you begin to see how it’s conspiring to bring you everything you want or need.
